Common Words
Common Words (also known as red words or tricky words) It’s really important that we build up our bank of tricky words to both read and spell. Remember you cannot Fred talk a red word. There are 5 common word mats to complete this week to help with the reading and writing. The sheets are attached below but if you need them printed out contact the office.
English tasks
This term we are exploring the text ‘Mrs Armitage on wheels’ by Quentin Blake. Before listening to the story complete task 1.

Task 1 on sheet – look at the front cover- What could the story be called? Read the title and author and discuss who we think the character is on the front cover. Why do you think that? Predict what we think the story may be about briefly. Record on the sheet of predictions. Read the story and compare predictions.
Task 2 Discussion- Listen to the text – Mrs Armitage on wheels. What do they like about it? Why? Explore some of the technical words – brackets, cassettes, screwdriver, transistor radio, wreckage, oil, chain and inventor. Do we still have some of these items?
Task 3 Writing - Using the bike image, add lots of items onto Mrs Armitage bike. Label the items you have added.
Extra task- Write a description of the bike joining 2 ideas with and - eg It has a large umbrella and a loud bell.
