Modern Foreign Languages

Statement of Intent

To develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in another language.

To enable children to use and apply their learning in a variety of engaging contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.

To encourage an interest in the cultural aspects of countries whose language we study.

Modern Foreign Languages Lead:

KS1 Mrs Getlevog

KS2 Mrs Tyas

Learning French is a fun and exciting part of the curriculum throughout KS2. Children enjoy the varied range of teaching methods which are very interactive and include songs, dances, role play and games. The variety of activities enable children to make progress in spoken and written French as well as developing their inter-cultural understanding.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 also have regular, extra-curricular French lessons. Just like in KS2, they are extremely interactive and full of fun. The children always look forward to learning French and often use the vocabulary they have learned outside of French lessons.

We continue to raise the profile of language learning  through school assemblies and displays.
