Design Technology Lead: Mrs Collins
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values; drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. In this subject, pupils learn how to think imaginatively and talk about what they like and dislike when designing and making. They work independently and as part of a team on a range of design and making activities, developing their personal skills and are encouraged to think critically in order to improve their own ideas and to comment on existing designs.
Cooking and Nutrition lessons provide purposeful opportunities for pupils to explore ingredients, develop practical food-preparation skills, and apply principles of nutrition. Children learn to follow recipes, use kitchen equipment safely and evaluate their creations with increasing independence and accuracy. Through progressive learning from Early Years to Key Stage 2, pupils build a secure understanding of food hygiene, safety and understand the basics of a healthy diet and why it matters.
